PS 307’s Women in STEM Expo 2018 was a great success

18 professional women visited the school on Thursday, March 22nd at 1 pm to speak with students in grades 3-5 about their profession and experience in the field. Our guests were a veterinarian, a web designer, Forensic Biologist, Forensic Psychologist, Pharmacist, Professor, and a Construction Project Manager. In addition the professional fields also included advertising, media, and e-commerce. Students listened and asked questions such as – what educational experience is needed for your job; does your job require you to work with others; what changes in your field do you foresee by the time I’m old enough to get a job; what’s does your work day look like? Children are often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Our hope is that by providing students at the elementary level opportunities to engage in dialogue with professionals across STEM fields, it will broaden their knowledge and enlighten them to the possibilities which exist in the workforce.
