Principal’s Letter for November

downloadDear P.S. 307 Families and Friends,

Happy November!  October was amazing at P.S. 307.  So many great activities took place and so many wonderful plans are being made for the upcoming months.

The School Leadership Team (SLT), comprised of Administrators, Teachers and Parents met to review and revise the school’s comprehensive educational plan (CEP).  This plan is the driver for the work for our school and guides the direction of the SLT as well as all stakeholders.  Once the CEP plan is approved it will be made public – so stay tuned.

Our focus is and will continue to be Student Engagement.   So, what do we mean when we say Student Engagement is our focus?

It means we work on ensuring the following:

  • Students are engaged in academic and social experiences that are not only aligned to what students should know, understand, and be able to do (the standards), but they are deeply thinking about what and how they learning.
  • Students are solving problems, working together and collectively developing the concepts and skills, deepening their knowledge as well as their social experience.
  • Students are working with content that is rich, diverse, and relevant.
  • Students are not only sharing what they have learned but continuously reflecting on the learning – mistakes and all.

Sounds like experiences and skills we could all use?  Exactly. ☺  That’s what we mean when say developing life-long learners.

Between the 5th grade trip to D.C., Student Government Elections, and the Fall Harvest Festival, October was a hit.  I hope that you enjoy reading about these events and highlights of last month.  We have eight more months of highlights to enjoy.

I look forward to seeing you at Coffee and Conversation, Student-Led Conferences, and at our Mindful Relaxation for Parents and Caregivers session on the 21st.  Let’s be mindful and relaxed together.

Happy Thanksgiving and as always, thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Carroll
Principal
