Presenters needed for our Women in STEM Expo 3/21

P.S. 307 will host its 3rd annual Women in STEM Expo (WISExpo) on Thursday, March 21 st from 1 pm – 2 pm. WISExpo will provide students access to professional women in STEM fields. Whether you are a doctor, professor, business owner, cashier or analyst, we need YOU! We are seeking a variety of women interested in spending an afternoon engaging our students in a discussion of your career. No matter the career field, we can connect it to the components of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The future generation of STEM workers, which America desperately needs, are our nation’s youngest, and this school year, more than 40% of the student population at P.S. 307 are girls; a gender, still underrepresented in STEM fields. Our goal is to develop STEM literate members for the workforce. Many of our students are unaware of the career opportunities available to them and this is a fantastic way to provide them with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths. This is also a great way for you to make an impact in our students’ future. It is imperative that our students are poised for success within a globally competitive and diverse economy. To accomplish this, we need to provide them access to a cohort of professional mentors on whom we can call upon to address our students and who are willing to share their experiences.
You are cordially invited to make a career presentation between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019. Complete this form to register as a participant in this WISExpo and share your professional focus with us. If you are not interested but know a woman who might be, please give them (or us) the necessary contact information.
Presentations should be between 15-20 minutes in length. You will present to small groups of students ranging from grade 2 through 5 th grade (ages 7 –11). The recommended format includes: your education/training, personal and professional skills necessary in your field, typical day in your field, related STEM components, related school subjects, child friendly games and presentations, and hands on activities or visuals, etc. We would certainly like for you to spend the afternoon with us, and we appreciate any time that you may be able to dedicate to this very rewarding experience.
