February message from principal

Dear Families and Friends of P.S.307:

I hope you are enjoying the warming trend. Today the students went out for recess and it truly felt like spring. I’ll take it for as long as it lasts. We have been reexamining our lunch recess based on feedback from Class Parents and the students. Our little ones in K-2, when not having recess outside due to extreme cold or wet weather, are either watching PBS for Kids or they are in the gymnasium playing board games. On Friday, we launched our board game recess time and it went really well. It was great to see kids across grades playing with each other with the assistance of our Student Government reps.

Thanks to all families for donating a number of fun board games. We definitely could use more, so please continue to donate games appropriate for students in grades K through 2. On Thursday, we were visited by the Executive Superintendent, Karen Watts along with representatives from the District and the Chancellor’s office. The topic was Integration at P.S. 307. We were very happy with the support that we received during that meeting. Ms. Watts was very pleased with what she saw and heard.

There are so many great things happening at 307. It is also clear that we need to have more conversations around integration, diversity and Equity. We are looking forward to that work. Please stay tuned for upcoming opportunities for the community to engage in dialogue.

The Beloved Community concert will take place on Thursday, February 7th. This will be the 4th year that we recognize MLK Jr. and his message of social justice for all. I am certain that you will all enjoy this tradition and what we have planned for this year.

On February 8th, progress reports will be sent home in grades K-5. Please review them with your child and reach out to teachers if you have any questions.

Respect for all week begins next Monday. We have wonderful activities planned for the week and a culminating celebration during our Community Meeting on Friday, February 15th. We look forward to sending pictures of the event.

Finally, I am extremely pleased to announce that Mr. Dan Mulhall has been officially appointed as Assistant Principal of P.S. 307. He has been well-received by staff, families and especially students and I could not be more happy that he will be working alongside me. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Mulhall.

Sincerely, Stephanie Carroll, Principal
