Back to School letter from the principal

August 20, 2018

Dear P.S. 307 Families:

I hope that everyone has been having a fantastic summer. Now that we are in the latter days of August, the “Back to School” commercials are playing on a loop, so it seems. We have been getting ready for the 2018-2019 school year and have a lot to share regarding our plans for the upcoming school year. I hope to see you all on September 17th at our Curriculum Night 4:30-7:30 p.m. Included with this letter is a letter of introduction from your child’s teacher/s as well as a supply list needed to begin the school year. School begins for all students at 8:00 a.m. on September 5th.

Please note, our regular breakfast program which begins at 7:30 a.m. will not begin until September 6th.

September 5th:

  • Grade 1 through 5 students will be dismissed at 2:20 p.m.
  • Kindergarten has a half day on September 5th. They will be provided an early lunch and dismissed at 11:20 a.m. Full day begins on September 6th.
  • Pre-Kindergarten has a partial schedule on September 5th and 6th. Please refer to the letter of introduction for your child’s individualized schedule for the first two days.

Grades 3-5 line up in the big school yard and are then directed to their classrooms.

1st and 2nd grade lines up in the Front Street play area and teachers escort them to their classrooms. During inclement weather, teachers meet their students in the auditorium (3-5) or gymnasium (K-2.)

PreK and Kindergarten families bring their children through the front entrance on York Street and escort their children to their classrooms for drop off.

On the first day of school, students will be bringing home a P.S. 307 Family Handbook. This handbook outlines the expectations regarding academics, responsibilities and rights of students and families. It also provides information on communication and who to contact for specific issues. Please take the time to review the handbook in its entirety, as it will help you become familiar with the school and its policies.

Students will also be given a Take Home Packet, which includes blue emergency contact information cards. Please fill out both emergency contact forms. One will remain in the main office and one will be for the teacher. Additionally, there will be instructions on completing the on-line lunch application form. Please note that lunch forms must be filled out by all families, as this data determines our Title 1 status and funding. It is going to be another amazing year at P.S. 307 and we look forward to welcoming our students on September 5th. Enjoy the remaining weeks of August and see you soon.
